With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gloria Nester Jennings, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left us suddenly on October 6, 2022 at the age of 78.

Gloria was born on August 1, 1944, in Laurel Fork, VA to Wilbert and Guida Nester. She grew up in the Laurel Fork area of Carroll County and graduated from Carroll County High School. She went on to attend Ferrum College. After graduating, she married Sid Jennings and together they moved to North Carolina, where they would eventually move across the state from Asheville to Cary following Sid's career in the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Gloria, always supportive, was instrumental in settling her family in their new locations, making friends in the process. Gloria and Sid settled in Cary in 1988. She worked the last 20 years of her career with the State of North Carolina, retiring from the Department of Health and Human Services in 2009.

Gloria will always be remembered as sweet and loving and the person who took care of family above all else.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert and Guida, and brothers, Clifford and Randolph "Randy". Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Sid; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chuck Hall; granddaughter, Sydney Hall; sister, Geneva Woods, and many brothers-and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Monika Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in the Nester Cemetery in Laurel Fork. The family will receive friends immediately before the service, beginning at 1:00 PM. Flowers are appreciated; however, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
