Gilbert Genoya Lawson, 95, of Hillsville passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Twin County Regional Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Emma Gravley Lawson; by one son, Robert David (R.D.) Lawson who was 4 years old when he died in 1948; by his parents, Robert and Catherine Jennings Lawson; and by ten siblings.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gary Lawson and Melissa Leigh Thompson of Hillsville; and his daughter, Wilma Lawson Clay of Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by three granddaughters, Lisa Clay Arguello and her husband, Francisco, of Winston Salem, N.C., Sabrina Lawson Vaughn and her husband, Lonnie, of Austinville, VA, and Chastity Renee (C.R.) Lawson of Hillsville, VA. He is survived by one grandson, Michael Clay of Radford, VA. There are five great grandchildren, Sarah and Julio Arguello, Alexis Grace Bowen, Justin Vaughn, Josh Vaughn and special friend Jordan Wade; and a great-great granddaughter, Gabriela Arguello, and a sister, Eskie Ayers of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

He was a loving good-natured person who wanted to be helpful and he loved his family and friends. Gilbert was an "I love you more" kind of person who contributed time and energy to help fellow alcoholics in their quest to stay sober.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Russell Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharp Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Lawson family.
