Gertrude Richardson Akers, 87 of Woodlawn, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Hillsville Health and Rehab.  Mrs. Akers was born in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Hobert Richardson and Ina Blanche Quesenberry Richardson.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Saford Akers; siblings and their spouses, Clara and Daulton Dillard, Berta and Paul Jennings, Colleene and Orvin White, Oneda Bella and French Chrisley, Maxine and Bernard Allison, Harvey and Mary Richardson, Ray and Cora Richardson, and Raymond and Elsie Richardson; and brother-in-law Vernon White.

Survivors include her sister, Freida White; special caregiver, Monique Woods; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jeff Pickett officiating.  Burial will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery in Pulaski, Virginia.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service.  Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
