George Staples Weddle, 79 of Fancy Gap, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at his home. He was born October 10, 1946 in Radford Hospital to the late Leon “Buster” Weddle and Burnice Jane Burnett Weddle. Mr. Weddle was named after his uncle, George Preston Burnett and great uncle, Walter Staples “Brady” Cochran.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sandra Meredith Weddle of the home; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kim Weddle of Woodlawn; and son, Paul Weddle of Fancy Gap. His boys were his champs. He was also survived by grandchildren Aila Boyd, Jordan and Logan Weddle; stepmother, Mary Weddle of Galax; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Dianne Weddle of Advance, NC; and sister-in-law, Shirley Meredith of Fancy Gap.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; brother, David Pierce Weddle; grandparents, Franklin Pierce Burnett, Maggie Marshall Burnett, and Rita Weddle; great grandfather, Simon Weddle; and brother-in-law, Doug Meredith.

George grew up in Hillsville and learned at a very early age to have a good work ethic, as with the Weddle Farm in Hillsville and the Burnett Farm in Dugspur and after marriage he also worked on the Meredith Farm in Fancy Gap. Mr. Weddle loved antiques and restoration of vintage vehicles. His interests included Civil War, Sons of Confederate Vets, car shows, farming, gardening, guns, coins, talking history, and the Hillsville flea market. After a variety of jobs, Mr. Weddle retired from being an OTR driver of 47 years. He provided very well for his family, which was his ultimate goal and pride instilled in him from his family, especially his mother – “You got to make a dollar”.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM with Missionary to Paraguay, David Wise, conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery in Hillsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
