George Moore Uber
, of Hillsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Commonwealth Assisted Living, Hillsville, VA. He was born in Westmont, New Jersey, February 10, 1921, to Albert H. Uber and Leila Bennett Uber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Rene Roux Uber; brothers, William, Edwin, Albert Jr., and sisters; Kathryn, Dorothy, Leila, Frances, Eunice and Ruth.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley J. Uber; his son, Donald Uber (Diana) and daughter, Kathleen Swancott; stepchildren, Vickie Barringer (Tom), Richard Beasley, Jr. (Judy), David Beasley (Norma); grandchildren, Denise Uber (Kevin Routhier), Donna Burke (Eric) and Darlene Montgomery (Tom), Michael Cockram (Jenny) and Jessica Mendenhall (Rob); step grandchildren, Lauren Watts (Justin), Chad Barringer, Jack Barringer, Kristie Golden (Sean), Jennifer Beasley, Blake Goad (Meagan), Matthew Goad (Jennifer), Sergio Koyangdo, Sascha Beasley, and Noah Beasley; twelve great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.
He served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II having received the European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal, American Campaign Area Medal and Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Naval Oceangraphic in Suitland, Maryland, as Nautical Cartographer.
Burial was held at Quantico National Cemetery on January 5, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life service be held at First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, Virginia on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 12:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the Celebration of Life Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to any of the following; First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, Commonwealth Assisted Living of Hillsville, and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, Hillsville. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
