Gary Steven Surratt, 75 of Hillsville, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Skyline Nursing and Rehab in Floyd, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Sylvian and Margie White Surratt; wife, Donna Alderman Surratt; brother, Dane Surratt; beloved dog, Jasper.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Melody Surratt; children and spouses, Amy and Paul Hash, Alena and Shane Spangler, Matthew and April Surratt, Morgan and Addison Antonetti; Brandi and Adam McMillian, and Zac and Amanda Lindsey; siblings and spouses, Larry and Claudia Surratt, Conrad and Susan Surratt, and Andrea and Elvin Smythers; grandchildren, Erin Hash, Taylor and Michael Combs, Aiden Hash, Ashlynn Spangler, Lily Surratt, Poppi Surratt, Avery McMillian, Ava McMillian, Archer McMillian, Jaiden Lindsey, and Jaila Lindsey; mother-in-law, Edna Noblett; brothers-in-law and spouses, Melvin and Lorrie Myers, and Mike and Vicki Myers; sister-in-law and spouse, Melissa and Johnny Hiatt; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Gary was a proud member of the Shiloh Methodist Church for 58 years, where his faith and friendships were a grounding part of his life. He was known best as a caring and sweet daddy, a loving grandpa, and a teacher who made every child feel seen and encouraged.

Outside the school walls, Gary found joy in the simple things- farming the land he loved, casting a line on a quiet day, and spending treasured time with his family. He was a proud Virginia Tech graduate and went on to serve his country in the Army reserves. Gary's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, former students, and all who were blessed to know him.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Shiloh Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Shiloh Methodist Church on Monday, December 1, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shiloh Cemetery in C/O Carolyn Brooks 1790 Airport Road, Hillsville, Virginia 24343.
