Gary Leon Akers, 56 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Akers was born in Surry County to the late Charles Lawrence Akers and Nora Jane Jenkins Akers. He is survived by his wife Deborah Sue Akers of the home; children & spouses Jeff & Spring Akers of Allisonia, Amy & James Surratt of Fancy Gap, Misty & Antonio Limon of North Wilkesboro, NC, Sue & James Caviness of Fancy Gap and Jamie & Candee Akers of Galax; brothers & sisters-in-law Charles & Freida Akers of North Carolina, Jimmy Akers of Mt. Airy, NC, and Larry & Joyce Akers of Galax; sister & brother-in-law Linda & Bill Norris of Raleigh, NC; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Eddie Bailey and Rev. Woody Flippin officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
