Garnett Lewis Rakes, 85 of Hillsville passed away on Sunday, August 07, 2016 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab in Hillsville, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Monroe and Ida Edwards Rakes and twelve brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Marshall Rakes of the home; son, Garnett Lee Rakes of Fancy Gap; three grandchildren, Chris Rakes and wife Jennifer, Ryan Rakes, and Rachel Rakes; two great grandchildren, Tyler Rakes and Chanson Rakes; brother-in-law, Hassel Vass; sister-in-law, Wilma Rakes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Rakes family.
