Obituary

Garland B. Spangler, 94, of Laurel Fork, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mr. Spangler was born in Virginia to the late Claude Calvin and Mandy Webb Spangler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Laveta Spangler; daughter, Janet Spangler; eight sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include his son, Roger Spangler of Hillsville; daughters, Carolyn Spence and special friend, Everette Sutphin of Laurel Fork and Norma Jean Pratt and husband, Lowell of Willis; brother and sister-in-law, J.C. and Regina Mabry of Bassett; sisters and brother-in-law, Clara Sutphin of Laurel Fork, Marie Branscome of Hillsville, and Vivian and Paul Gravley of Hillsville; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1:00 PM with Pastor Marcus Wood and Pastor Jason Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Grover King Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
