Frieda Jane Martin Staples, 84 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Staples was born in Carroll County to the late James William David and Opal Elizabeth Blankenship Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loman S. Staples and sons Robert S. Staples and Anthony L. Staples.

Survivors include her sons, Eldon Lane Staples and wife, Linda of Highfalls, GA, Joseph David Staples and wife, Donella of Hillsville, and Charles Chris Staples of Highfalls, GA; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Thomas Martin of Hillsville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Tasha. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Laurel Meadows and Mountain Valley Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers make a memorial gift to Alzheimer's Association, checks payable to Galax RAC #87 P.O. Box 1057 Galax, VA 24333 in memory of Frieda Staples. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
