Frederick Maury Shepherd, Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away on November 25th, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Fred was born January 3rd, 1943, in Pulaski, Va., the son of Charles Alva Shepherd & Lila Jennings Shepherd of Hillsville, Va. His fondest memories were of his family, friends, growing up in Hillsville, college at East Tennessee State University, being a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, experience of living in 8 states, traveling the U.S. & other countries, watching football, working 32 years with Equifax, Inc., and his special dog - "Hunter".
Fred loved fishing and boating throughout Florida in the intracoastal waters and rivers, fishing the lakes and rivers of Virginia and special experience of fishing in Hawaii.
Fred was preceded in death by his father Charles Alva Shepherd; nephew Anthony Perez; and mother & father-in-law, Maude Landreth and Charles E. Hankley.
Survivors include his mother Lila Jennings Shepherd of Edgewater, Fl.; wife of 43 years & best friend Charlotte Hankley Shepherd of Atlantic Beach, Fl.; sons Fred Shepherd of Atlantic Beach, Fl. and Greg Shepherd of Neptune Beach, Fl.; granddaughter Summer Rose Shepherd of San Diego, Ca.; brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Faye Shepherd of Edgewater, Fl.; sister and brother-in-law Zara and Jan Karp of Roswell, Ga.; niece and husband Stephanie and Rich Gregoire of Largo, Fl.; aunt Marie Newman of Hillsville, Va.; uncles John and Howard Shepherd; special friend and pet "Hunter".
Visitation and Celebration of Life Service will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Funeral Home in Hillsville, Va. on Monday, December 6, 2010. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and Celebration of Life Service will be from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. Inurnment will be at Jennings Cemetery on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 10:00 am for family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Carroll County High School Athletic Department, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, or charity of choice.
