Frances Elizabeth Marshall Phillips, 96, of Dugspur passed away on May 9th, 2011 in the Sweet Memories Wing of Wheatland Hills Retirement Community in Hillsville. She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Phillips; parents Samuel Peter Marshall and Melda Marshall; brother, Ralph Marshall and sister Lilian Wood. She is survived by sister, Nina Jennings of Hillsville; children and spouses, Joyce P. Goad of Dugspur; E. Larry Phillips and Patricia of Midlothian; Dan R. Phillips and Saiko of West Bloomfield, MI; Joan K. Phillips of Roanoke; Angela P. Horvath and Ted of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Edwin L. Phillips, Jr., Ginger E. Nichols, Jennifer P. Lee, and Nancy N. Brubaker; and great grandchildren Molly Phillips, Hannah and Grayson Brubaker.

Frances was a lifelong homemaker and an extremely devoted and loving wife and mother. Also, she was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Dugspur for 84 years. The family would like to thank the many special people at Wheatland for their compassion and care; plus a special thanks to Mt. Valley Hospice for the professional help and many acts of kindness.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel on May 11th at 7:30 PM with Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. A private burial will be held in the Cox Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimers Association 3959 Electric Road, Suite 357 Roanoke, VA 24018.
