September 12, 1933 – July 1, 2018
Foy Dale Crowder, 84, of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Waddell Nursing and Rehab. Mr. Crowder was born in Carroll County to the late Edgar and Lura Beasley Crowder.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Smythers Crowder of the home; sons and daughter-in-law, Eric and Gina Crowder and Mark Crowder all of Hillsville; sister, Freda Collett of Florida; grandchildren Joshua Eric Crowder, Ivy Crowder, and John Bible; and six great-grandchildren.
Foy Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a deacon in the Hillsville Christian Church and studied the Bible as long as he was able. Foy Dale spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He then received his Master's Degree in Elementary Education. He taught school for 2 years in Carroll County and then became and elementary school principal in Carroll County and served the communities of Laurel Fork and Sylvatus. Foy Dale was principal of Austinville and Jackson Memorial Schools combined for 23 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed playing golf as well. The family sends thanks to the nurses, staff and workers of the Waddell Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Amanda Hatfield Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Monta Vista Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
