Faye Phillips Smythers Faye Phillips Smythers, 90, formerly of Fries, Virginia, died December 17, 2011 in Staunton, Virginia. She was born in Fries on July 22, 1921, the daughter of the late Charlie and Esther Phillips. Faye was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Nile C. Smythers and her brothers, Dan Phillips and Bill Phillips. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Judy Smythers , Lovingston, Virginia; step-grandson, Chris Collins, his wife Patti and two great grandchildren, Andrew & Catie, Winchester, Virginia; brother-in- law, Charles Smythers and his wife, Shelby of Austinville; sister-in-law, Helen Reynolds and her husband, R. J. of Hillsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 20 at the Vaughn Guynn McGrady Funeral Home Chapel, Hillsville, Virginia. The Rev. R. J. Reynolds will officiate. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Interment following the service at the Pickett Cemetery in Carroll County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to make memorials consider a charitable organization of their choice.
