Fannie Bolt Newman, 93, of Hillsville and formerly of Dugspur, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Trinity Mission in Hillsville. Mrs. Newman was born in Carroll County on June 19, 1918 to the late Harrison Ellis and Mary Alice Largen Bolt. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Arnold Ray Newman; daughter Marie Newman Martin; three brothers; and seven sisters. Mrs. Newman was a cafeteria worker for Carroll County Public Schools, a seamstress for Mayville and Bassett-Walker Factories, and a farmer. She was also a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Dugspur, Virginia. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Anita and Arthur (Jack) Edmonds of Hillsville; four grandchildren and spouses Michael and Rebecca Edmonds of Dugspur, Susan Donner of Suffolk, Janet Cook of Bealeton, and Karen and Andy Quick of Centreville; nine great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also, the family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of Trinity Mission in Hillsville for the seven years of wonderful care given to Mrs. Newman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dustin Montgomery and Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Newman Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service starting at 1:00 PM.
