Obituary

Evelyn Cloatine Henley, 76 of Hillsville, passed away Friday, September 8, 2006 at her residence after battling lung cancer for several years. Mrs. Henley was born in Carroll County to the late Delmar Lawerence and Betty Midkiff Horton. She graduated Hillsville High School in 1947 and was a legal secretary for many years. Mrs. Henley worked for J.L. Tompkins, attorney, in Hillsville and the Clerk of Court, Swanson Smith. Afterwards she worked as a court reporter for attorneys throughout Carroll, Wytheville and Pulaski Counties and the City of Galax. Mrs. Henley was also a member of the Hillsville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert J. (Bobby) Henley of the home; daughter, Bobbie J. Henley of Richmond; sister Marie Worrell of Knoxville, TN; and five nephews Donnie Horton, Randy Horton, Rev. David Horton, Terry Horton and Timmy Horton.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Dr. John Dunstan and Rev. Chip Neeley officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Saturday night at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hillsville Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 120 Edgewood Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343; Ginter Park United Methodist Church, 1010 West Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227; or to Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, 3401 Brook Road, Richmond, VA 23227.
