Hillsville - Evelyn Massingill Batchelor, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 17th, 2011. She was born January 31, 1920 in Pickens County, SC to the late Thomas and Nancy Massingill. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Paul R. Batchelor, son David L. Batchelor, daughter-in-law Trina M. Batchelor, seven brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Curtis Easter of Lexington, SC; son Stephen Batchelor of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter-in-law Linda Batchelor of Max Meadows, VA, sister Biddie Crenshaw of Pickens, SC, grandchildren Shawn Easter, Christopher Batchelor, Gina Easter Holmes, Michael Batchelor, Kevin Batchelor, and Corey Batchelor; and nine great-grandchildren.

An expert seamstress, Evelyn also loved to knit, quilt, weave baskets, garden, and bake. She was well-known for her cakes and coconut pies. A member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years, she was remembered for her involvement in community missions. She spent many years in retail sales, primarily at Jenrettes, a womens clothing store . A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday, March 20th, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Hillsville, VA with the Reverend Michael Shockley officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
