Obituary

Ethel Virginia Fleming Martin, 92, of Shorts Creek, VA, went to be with her savior on November 27, 2015. Mrs. Martin was born July 15, 1923 in Draper, VA to the late Roby Sutherland and Flora Bell Fowler Fleming. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Jefferson Martin, Sr; a daughter, Nancy Jane Benoy; and three siblings, William Roby Fleming, Beatriss Marie Fleming and Harry Frank Fleming. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law's, Ralph J. "Bob" Martin, Jr. and Margaret, of Hillsville; and Roger Lee Martin and Patricia, of Shorts Creek; a daughter, Kay Laverne Riggins, of Shorts Creek; seven grandchildren and spouses, Brandi and Robbie Reynolds, of Ennice, NC; Robert and Amy Martin, of Claudville; Marie Martin, of Christiansburg; Yvette Goad, of Shorts Creek; Michelle and Johnny Salyer, of Shorts Creek; Michael and Faye Martin, of Dobson, NC; Tony and Dreama Martin, of Shorts Creek. Thirteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. Martin was the family matriarch and Sunday dinners were always a   family affair where children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathered   weekly along with close family friends. Special recognition to Ricky Myers,   Greg & the late Randall Gravley, the Cloyd Parnell Family; these folks were   treated the same as her own children. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.   The family will receive friends at the Vaughn-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on   Sunday, November 29, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will follow   at 2 p.m. officiated by the Reverend Doug Fleming. Burial will follow at the   Fowler Cemetery in Shorts Creek.   The family would like to extend deep appreciation to Blue Ridge Home   Health Care; especially Chelsea Burnette, Amanda Walker and Roger   Horton.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fowler   Cemetery Fund, 330 Edgewood Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343.   Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
