Essie Pearl Stockner Nester, 102 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Grayson Nursing and Rehab. Mrs. Nester was born in Carroll County to the late Layfayette and Anna Lavinia Semones Stockner. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett Dennie Nester; sisters, Easter Keith, Virginia Hill, and Edith Dalton; special nephew, Orba Alderman; and step-sons, Melton Elmo Nester, Gaylon Dono Nester, and Everette Reo Nester. Survivors include a special caregiver, Ruth Alderman of Hillsville; and sisters, Clara Alderman of Hillsville, Doris Webster of North Carolina, and Evelyn Carr of Portsmith, VA; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 3:00 PM with Elder Edward Bowman and Elder Eddie Bunn officiating. Burial will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 till 3:00 PM prior to the service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
