Essie Haynes Sawyers, 73 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Sawyers was born in Virginia to the late William Carl & Dessie McMillian Haynes. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Calvin E. Sawyers, Jr. and an infant brother Brian Haynes. She is survived by her sons & daughter-in-law William Vincent Sawyers and Jerry & Cheryl Q. Sawyers all of Fancy Gap; daughters & sons-in-law Denise & Darrell Goad and Nancy S. & Bill Bakley all of Hillsville; brother & sister-in-law Wade K. & Wilma Haynes of Cana; brother-in-law & spouse Thomas Andy & Mamie Sawyers of Fancy Gap; sister-in-law Ovella Easter of Cana; and three grandchildren PFC Travis Goad, Marie Dawn Goad and Jacob Sawyers.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Pastor Wendell Horton and Rev. Dale Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Bond Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
