Elmer J. Griffin, 93, of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013. Mr. Griffin was born in Carroll County to the late Bruce and Alverta Beasley Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Gaynell Griffin; his son, Jimmy Griffin; and four brothers, John Lewis Griffin, Ellis Griffin, Glenn Griffin, and Brooks Griffin. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Stanley Griffin of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Mary Jane Griffin of Galax; daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Griffin of Woodlawn; brothers, Coolidge Griffin and Rush Griffin both of Austinville; sister, Lydia Towe, of Cana; two grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Denna Griffin of Wytheville and Donna and Bobby Elliott of Galax; two great grandchildren, Dena Stuart and Drew Griffin; two great-great grandchildren; two step grandsons, Scott Stanley and Mark Stanley; and four step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Pastor Austin Goodwin and Pastor Randy Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Beasley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday one hour prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
