Ellis Vernon Jones, 81 of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mr. Jones was born March 3, 1928 in Austinville to the late Matthew & Lizzie Jones. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruby F. Jones and a son Jerry Lee Jones. Survivors include his daughter Darlene Jones of Hillsville; sons & daughter-in-law Wayne & Carolyn Jones of Woodlawn and David Jones of Galax; six grandchildren & spouses Raleigh & Dee Jones, Karen & Felipe Avelar, Travis Jones, Matthew Jones, Melodi Jones and Alexandra Jones; and eight great grandchildren Brittany Jones, Alexander Joyner, Luis Avelar, Frankie Jones, Monica Avelar, Dixie Jones, Andres Avelar, and Mathias Jones; two step great grandchildren Terry Goins and Kimber Goins; two step great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 at Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy at 1:00 PM with Rev. R.J. Reynolds and Rev. Samuel Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Poplar Camp Church of God of Prophecy on Thursday night from 6:30 until 8:30 PM.
