Ella Ann Allen, 85 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mrs. Allen was born in Carroll County to the late Maynard and Gladys Chitwood Hicks. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Joe Hicks.

Mrs. Allen was a 1948 graduate of Hillsville High School. In her younger years she loved horseback riding. Ella Ann was very active in her church, Dalton Hill Christian Church, and was baptized at the age of 12. She was very instrumental in the construction of the new church. Ella Ann became an avid bridge player and was involved in bridge clubs, where she thoroughly enjoyed the game and the friends that she played with.

Ella Ann is survived by her husband of 68 years, Rush Allen of the home. She and Rush loved to travel and visited many places in the United States and around the world. They enjoyed playing golf together and had many great friends, who improved their quality of life.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by two nieces, Terry Jo Largen and Cynthia Ann Storm.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at Dalton Hill Christian Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jason Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dalton Hill Christian Church P.O. Box 790 Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Allen family.
