Elizabeth Winesett Rakes, 73 of Woodlawn, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Rakes was preceded in death by her father Edward M. Winesett. Elizabeth loved cats, her dog Toby, and farm animals. She also enjoyed sewing, Q.V.C, quilting, breakfast at Rev. J. Fields church and Sunday morning hymns. Elizabeth especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Delmer K. Rakes of the home; son & daughter-in-law James E. (Jim) & Terri Scott of Wytheville; daughter & son-in-law Sherri & Fred Gilmour of Aberdeen, MD; mother Berna Smythers Winesett of Woodlawn; brothers Gerald Winesett of Whiteford, MD, Eldon Winesett, Neal Winesett and Boyd Winesett all of Woodlawn; sisters Jane Jones of Max Meadows; and Marcia Wilmoth of Street, MD; four grandchildren Jessica Priess, Benjamin Gilmour, Rachel Shultz, and Sarah Scott; and two great grandchildren Madison Priess and Jeremy Gilmour.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Norman C. Wilhoit officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
