Elizabeth (Libby) DeHaven Branscome, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026. She was born June 16, 1940, in Hillsville, Virginia to William Glenn DeHaven (1909-1984) and Alpha Heath Webb DeHaven (1914-2012). Jim, Libby and their children, lived in several Virginia locales, eventually settling in Henrico, Virginia in 1983. Libby was one-of-a-kind, with a sense of humor, generosity of spirit and audaciousness that endeared her to many. She was a dedicated and loving mother and doting grandmother. She was actively involved in the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, while she was able, leading the acolytes for many years, helping to lead Caritas, and planning and advocating for the kitchen in the new church building.
She was also a talented and prolific painter. She studied painting while attending Madison College, now James Madison University, and re-entered the painting world when her children were grown. Her watercolors were an extension of her personality, both through her style and the subject matter of mountains, country scenes, and places she or her children visited. Libby lived with Parkinsons for the last several years of her life, rarely if ever complaining and keeping her sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James; her children, Lincoln Branscome (Jennifer), Matthew Branscome (Jennifer), and Kara Rothman (Jeff) and her two grandchildren, Ezra and Nora. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A visitation will be held at Bennett Funeral Home on Broad Street in Glen Allen, Virginia on Tuesday, June 16, from 6-8pm.
Another visitation will be held at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, Virginia on Wednesday, June 17 from 6-8pm.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Glen Allen VA.
