Edward Vernon Cole, 85 years old passed away August 22nd at his home. Formerly from Richlands Virginia, who in the past 24 years has made his home in Hillsville, VA and Advance, NC. Edd was born on March 13, 1930 in Buchanan County, VA to parents Ulyss and Emma Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Francis Etter of Richlands, VA and Ann Williams of Richlands, VA. His wife Lena Hazel Cole also predeceased him. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 24 years Elsie Surratt Parnell Cole of the home, one brother Hubert Cole (Laura) of Richlands, VA; four step children Shirley Vaughn Quesenberry (Larry), Kenneth Vaughn (Lorraine), Rhonda Parnell Blevins (Aaron), and Teresa Parnell Welch (Del); three grandchildren, Amanda Vaughn, Jessica Welch Greene (Jon), and Jade Austin Welch. Edd is also survived by one special great granddaughter, Camden Olivia Greene. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Edd graduated from White Wood High School and served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army where he was based in Japan. After his discharge from service, he spent 10 years with Greyhound Bus Lines as a coach driver. He entered in the coal mining business in the mid 70's and retired in 1991 from the coal mining business. His hobby of many years was antique automobiles. His joy was turning a broken, rusted pile of car parts into a Grand National championship winner. He reluctantly sold his 1918 Cole car last year. Thus ending his long love affair with antique automobiles. Edd was a longtime member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, and was a member of the Hillsville Christian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hillsville Christian Church or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Our thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice for their care and support at this important time, also a special thanks goes to his wonderful caregiver, Kimberly Guerra.
