Edith Dalton Mitchell, 78, of Hillsville, Va., passed away Monday, May 11, 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Nannie Dalton; brother Clyde Dalton, sister Pauline Beasley and a very special friend Berta Mae Collins. Survived by husband of 60 years, Curry Mitchell of the home, also two daughters and son-in-laws, Carolyn and Worth Hall of Fancy Gap, Charlotte and Clyde Collins of Roanoke Va., and two sons Ivan Mitchell of Christiansburg Va., and Larry Mitchell of Hillsville Va. Three sisters Myrtle Dalton of Brook, Indiana, Ruth Riffle of Rivesville W.Va., Louise Rice of Arlington Va., and a host of relatives and friends.

Edith attended Sylvatus Christian Church. She was a dedicated wife and mother who worked hard to raise and support her children and family. She enjoyed flowers and being around family and friends, which was the most important thing for her.

A Funeral service will be held at 7:30p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville Va. with the Reverend David Bayes officiating. The family will receive friends at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 6:00p.m. until the time of service at 7:30p.m. A private burial will be held in the Shockley Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, the family request donations be made to the Shockley Cemetery Fund in c/o Alfred Shockley, 156 Mourning Dove Drive, Hillsville Va. 24343.
