Edith Yvonne Shrader Barlow Alexander

Edith Yvonne Shrader Barlow Alexander, 68, of Hillsville, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at her home, surrounded by loving family, and was welcomed by her Lord and Savior to her new home of joy and peace, where there is no more sickness, pain, or tears. She had fought a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Alexander was born in Tazewell, Virginia, to the late Hurley Lee and Edith Marlene Nunley Shrader. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Shrader; special great-nephew, Zac Carter; and father of her children, Randy Barlow. She attended Sylvatus Christian Church and was a loving, devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her life, her kind, beautiful spirit, and her sweet smile reflected her love for Christ and others.

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies…Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:” (Proverbs 31:10, 28).

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Daniel Alexander, of the home; children, Lori Wright and Josh of Pawleys Island, SC; Chad Barlow and Savannah of Longs, SC; and Eric Alexander and Christy of Hillsville, VA; siblings, Ima Jean Brooks of North Tazewell, VA; Randy Reynolds and wife Irene of Central City, PA; and Rebecca Rutledge and husband Harold of Buffalo, IN; grandchildren, Nicholas Crawford, Ainsley Wright, Taylor Spraker and husband Derek, Brody Alexander, Damon Hill and wife Reanna, Holden Barlow, Halle Wright, Brooklyn Barlow, Kymber Alexander, and Hudson Barlow; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Amy Carter, Dr. Kelli Brooks, Jason Shrader, Ashley Chapman, Michael Reynolds, Jonathan Reynolds, Rebekah Reynolds, Regina Handy, Travis Handy, Jude Rutledge, Caleb Rutledge, and Deacon Rutledge; and a host of cherished friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 1:00 PM with Ministers Russell Payne and Jeff Pickett officiating. Burial will follow in the James L. Marshall Cemetery. Nicholas Crawford, Derek Spraker, Brody Alexander, Damon Hill, Holden Barlow, Hudson Barlow, Jeff Carter, and Randy Scheri will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service.
