Douglas Ray Horton 68 of Austinville, Virginia passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Margaret Dalton Horton; father, John Henry Earnest Horton: brothers, Eugene Horton and Gilmer Horton; sisters, Kathleen Griffin, Josphine Kemp, Bernice Goad, and Louise Davidson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Donna Kay Williams Horton; three children, Emily Padgett, Leigh Ann Gallimore (Dana), and Neil Horton; seven grandkids, Connor Horton and (Hannah), Ben Mann and (Kenzie F.), Hannah Cooper and (Jaylan J.), Hayden Padgett, Alexis Horton, Adalyn Horton, and Easton Horton; one great-grandchild, Briar Cooper Jenkins; sisters and spouses, Juanita Jones and (Joe Dean), Frances Goad and (Verlin), Shirley Porter, and Christine Easter; brother and spouse, Virgil Horton and (Joye); sister-in-law, Bonnie Horton; several nieces and nephews also survive and one special nephew, Eddie Goad.

Doug retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 43 years of a long and respected career. Outside of work he was known for his deep love of animals, especially sheep and pigeons.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Windsor Place 6252 Coulson Church Road, Austinville, Virginia 24312.
