Dorothy Virginia Lawson, age 94, of Austinville, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Galax Nursing and Rehab. Dorothy was born in Charleston, WV to the late Ira and Verna Mabe. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Buford Archie Lawson; a granddaughter, Diana Lynn Carter; a sister, Evelyn Long; and a daughter-in-law, Edna Lawson.

Survivors include children Doris Carter and husband David and Melvin Lawson all of Austinville; grandchildren and spouses, Alison and Trevor Watson, John and Pam Carter, Tina Lawson, and Billy and Chong Lawson; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Mahayla Watson, Adam and Mariah Carter, Chris Lawson, and Salena Atwell; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Lee Edwards; brother, Dennis Fender and wife, Alena; many dear nieces and nephews; and long-term caregivers, Diana Elledge and Janice Smythers.

Dorothy was well known for her delicious homemade rolls. She loved to do for others. A well-known caregiver, a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, she taught her family love and kindness and so much more! In her heart she was always kind. Mom, grandma we will miss you so much!

Dorothy's family would like to give special thanks to Diana Elledge and Janice Smythers for their special care given to Dorothy at home, to SW Home Health for home health care, to Galax Nursing and Rehab for their wonderful caring staff and to Dr. Bonsu and staff for their compassionate medical care to Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Russell Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
