Dorless L. Barr, 86 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at his home. Mr. Barr was born in Carroll County to the late Robert Thomas and Alma Mae Thomas Barr. In addition to his parents, Dorless was also preceded in death by a brother, Carmie Barr. Dorless was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and a life time member of the Hillsville Grover King V.F. W. Post 1115. He worked at B & L Chevrolet for many years and later was the custodian at Gladesboro Elementary and drove a school bus for the Carroll County Public School System. Mr. Barr is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shelba Jean Barr of the home; children and spouses, Debbie Turman of Meadows of Dan, Rick and Sandra Barr of Hillsville, and Doug and Jill Barr of Galax; brother, J.D. Barr of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren and spouses, Marsha and Tracy Caudill of Laurel Fork, Bobby and Abby Turman of Meadows of Dan, Joshua and Nicole Barr of Hillsville, Daniel and Regina Barr of Galax, Nick Barr of Galax, and Ari Barr of Galax; eight great grandchildren; special friend, Annette Marshall; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Joe Shumate officiating. Inurnment will follow in Gladesboro Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Grover King V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers will be appreciated; however, in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Gladesboro Lutheran Church 3486 Gladesboro Road, Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
