Donald Grey Sumner, 74 of Barren Springs, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 at his home.  Mr. Sumner was born in Carroll County, Virginia on November 17, 1949.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Belva Hall Sumner; wife, Deborah Phillips Sumner; daughter, Melissa Jean Sumner; and sisters, Ima Morris and Maxine Felts.

Mr. Sumner grew up in the Fancy Gap section of Carroll County.  He served in the U.S. Army and then drove a truck for many years.

Survivors include his granddaughter, Monica Spencer (Logan); grandson, Anthony Rosenbaum (Allie); sisters, Bonnie Hawks and Wilma Dalton; great-granddaughters, Payton Harrison, Addison Rosenbaum, and Brooke Burcham; great-grandson, Carson Spencer; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with burial following will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Independence Cemetery at 2:00 PM with Rev. Eddie Dalton officiating.  The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
