Donald Price Slusher, 90, of Hillsville, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Quesenberry Slusher and their sons, Donnie Slusher and wife Nancy of Bedford, VA, Tommy Slusher and wife Joyce of Hillsville, VA, Rickey Slusher of Hillsville, VA, and Randall Slusher and wife Melissa of Gastonia, NC and grandchildren Jennifer Krantz, Douglas Slusher, Jessica Atkins, Ashley Devers, and Jordan Slusher, and 5 great grandchildren. Sisters Joann Overstreet of Hopewell, VA and Glenna Weddle and husband Wilbur of Floyd, VA, also survive him. Price was born on April 28, 1921 in Campbell County, VA to the late Noah Christian and Lura Fayne Slusher. He was born again into the kingdom of God on October 8, 1967. He served as a surgical technician in Japan at the end of WW II as a Private First Class, First Calvary Division, U.S. Army. After returning to the states he was employed as a logger, road builder, strip coal miner and co-owner of Slusher's Clothing Outlet. Price served his Lord as deacon of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Dugspur, VA for over 30 years, and was a member of The Gideons International. His passion for sharing the gospel led him to Russia, Panama, Venezuela, and Argentina on short-term mission trips, as well as disaster relief projects within the states. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville, VA on December 30, 2011. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm followed by the service at 7:30. Military rites will be conducted at Green Hill Cemetery in Dugspur, VA at 11:00 a.m. on December 31, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to The Gideons International. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
