Obituary

Donald Wayne "Jack" Ayers, 87 of Hillsville, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 3, 2013. He was born on January 19, 1926 in Raleigh County, West Virginia to Joseph Floyd Ayers and Rosie May Conner. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Juanita Jean Shockley Ayers; one sister, Virginia Irene Marshall; and two brothers, Clyde Eugene Ayers and Oakie Clarence Ayers. He is survived by two sons, Thomas Lee Ayers of Hillsville and William David Ayers of Beaver, Washington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. The family would like to give thanks to some special friends of the family; Susan Harold and her son, Terry (Jack's honorary grandson) and to her mother Allie Staples. He was 1st class seaman in the US Navy during WWII. He received the medals of American Area, Victory WWII and Asiatic Pacific. During his years with Exxon, before his retirement, he was the Representative of the Board of Governors with Exxon. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM. A graveside service with burial following will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Shockley Cemetery in Hillsville, at 11 AM, with Pastor Chip Neely officiating. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
