Donald Ray Gibson, 86 of Galax, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026 in Waddell Nursing Home. He was born May 8, 1939 in McDowell County, WV to the late Shirley and Leona Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Gibson; sister, Dreama Gibson; brothers, Bernard Gibson, Lawrence "Hoot" Gibson, Howard Gibson, and Junior Gibson.

Donald is survived by three sons, Donald (Cinde) Gibson, Rickey (Ginger) Gibson, and Ervin (Tessa) Gibson, all of Galax; six grandchildren, Bradley Gibson, Brittany (Alex) Cutchens of Galax, Rebbeca (Zach) Dunford of Austinville, Stephanie (Tre) Parks of Wytheville and Tyler (Elizabeth) Gibson and Riley Gibson both of Galax; seven great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Cutchens of Galax, Arianna Gibson of Galax, Adalynn and Vance Parks of Wytheville, Leland and Waylon Dunford of Austinville, and Taylor Gibson of Galax; sister, Darlene (James) Vance of Iaeger, WV; and brothers, Jack Gibson of Union, WV and James Gibson of Pads Fork, WV.

Don enjoyed life and being around people. He loved his church and church family and spending time with his family. He loved them with all of his heart.

A visitation and viewing will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Meadow Creek Church on Faith Drive in Galax from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Pete Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadow Creek Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Donald Gibson, Bradley Gibson, Tre Parks, Alex Cutchens, James Vance, and Tim Rose. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
