Donald Dillard Akers , age 78 passed away Saturday June 18 after a brief illness. He was born in Mount Airy, North Carolina and resided in Hillsville, Virginia until his death. He was the son of the late Dillard and Marie Akers of Hillsville and beloved Stepmother, Lula Akers also of Hillsville.

He was a 46 year State of Virginia employee and a dedicated life member at the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth D. Vernon of Hillsville and one brother, Jim Stocker (Trilby) of Newton Conover, NC. His nieces and nephews include: Beth (Martin) Barkoskie, Angel (Jeff) Frazier, Lynn Vernon , Scottie White, Michael (Stephanie) Delp, Collin (Melissa) Delp, and many great nieces and nephews and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Monday, June 20 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. His celebration of life will be Tuesday, June 21 at 10:00 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Donations to be given to the Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
