Don Arlin Goad, 67, of Hillsville, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at his home. Mr. Goad was born in Carroll County on June 25, 1945, the son of the late Posey Ray Goad and Esther Hull Goad. Survivors include his wife, Lois Crowder Goad of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley Goad and Anthony Payne of Alexandria; granddaughter, Lena Elizabeth Payne of Alexandria; sister, Jean Cruise of Hillsville; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Nada Goad of Hillsville; niece, Charlene Guynn of Woodlawn; nephews and spouses, Odell and Karen Cruise of Hillsville, and Kevin and Candy Cruise of Mount Airy, NC; several great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Harold and Janice Vass of Woodlawn. Don was a lover of bluegrass music, having played mandolin in two bands over the last forty years - the Misty Mountain Ramblers and Reva Banks and the Country Folk. He had a strong work ethic and was a loyal employee of Lees Carpet, Burlington Denim, Wayn-tex and Mohawk, before his retirement. Don was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Hillsville Lodge No. 193 AF & AM. A graveside service with inurnment following will be held at the Isaac Banks Cemetery on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM with Pastor David Bays officiating. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge No.193 AF & AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jody Aaron Goad Scholarship Fund. Checks may be made payable to Carroll Scholarship Foundation, Inc. with a note for Jody A. Goad Scholarship in the memo and mailed to 910 Cavalier Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343.
