Obituary

Delmer Kile Rakes, 71, of Woodlawn passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Herman and Dolla Zettie Miller Rakes; wife, Elizabeth Winesett Rakes; siblings, Perry Horton, Lillian (Gay) Horton Thomas Holbrock, Lester Rakes, Larry Rakes, Betty Jean Rakes Adkins, Robert Rakes, and Jeraline Rakes. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Marshall Rakes of the home; step-daughter, Sherry and Fred Gilmour of Maryland; step-sons and spouses, Jim and Terri Scott of Wytheville, Tony and Janet Marshall of Atlanta, GA, Tim Marshall of Roanoke, and Terry and Sandy Marshall of Max Meadows; eight step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren; brother K. Dallas Horton of Louisiana; paternal aunt, Earla Rakes; paternal uncle Earl Rakes; maternal aunt, Esther Perry; special niece, Tammy Adkins; several brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws; many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Coulson Church of the Brethren with Brother Hal Sonafrank and Brother Harry Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Rakes family.
