Dr. Davis "D.B." Thorne, 88, of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Commonwealth Assisted Living. Dr. Thorne was born in Beaver, WV to the late Jefferson Davis Thorne and Lottie Butler Lilly. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary D. Thorne; son, Dr. David Thorne; and several half-siblings.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Kathy Thorne of Hillsville; daughter-in-law, Delilah Thorne of Independence; grandchildren and spouse, Morgan Thorne and Amy and Adam Gifford; great-grandchildren, Joel Gifford and Seth Gifford; sisters-in-law, Margaret Sowder of Lynchburg, VA and Bettye Dunfee of Proctorville, OH; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dr. D.B. Thorne was an optometrist in Carroll County for 34 years. He was also very active in his church and community.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Amanda Hatfield Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the charity of your choice. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
