Atkinson
September 17, 1949 – February 11, 2022
Rev. David Sherwin Atkinson, 72 of Narrows, passed away on February 11, 2022 at his home. Rev. Atkinson was born in Bedford, Virginia to the late Cline L. and Frances O. Martin Atkinson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Gerald Atkinson and Darrell Atkinson; and grandson, Dustin Kellison.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Kathy Atkinson; daughters, Marcie McCroskey and husband, Tommy of Narrows, Anna Pettrey and husband, Paul of Athens, WV, Wendy Hamlin and husband, Brent of Grottoes, VA, Angie Knight of Hot Springs, VA and Tonya Hickman of Afton, VA; sisters, Linda Dalton and husband, Don of Rich Creek and Brenda Turner and husband, Larry of Narrows; grandchildren, Jordan Hatfield, Ben McCroskey, Emma McCroskey, Alex Atkinson, Autumn Richardson, Kaitlyn Richardson, Brannon Pettrey, Haley Hamlin, Willow Hamlin, Justin Kellison, Dariene Hepler, Dalton Knight; Dillon Knight, and Brody Hickman; and four great-grandchildren.
David was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He graduated after four years from the Maranatha Bible College through the IPH Conference. Rev. Atkinson was a minister for 52 years and was Bishop of 52 churches in Malawi, Africa. He was an avid hunter and also loved to fish. Rev. Atkinson was loved and respected by many because of the influence he had on so many lives. Those who met him were changed by him and because of that his legacy will forever live on. He will be missed beyond words.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 10:30 AM at God's House 258 Lebanon Rd, Pembroke, VA 24136 with Pastors Kathy Atkinson and Mike Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Angels Rest Cemetery on Fletcher's Mountain Road. The family will receive friends at God's House on Saturday, February 19, 2022 from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. Flowers are appreciated and may be delivered directly to the church or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to God's House P.O. Box 183 Pembroke, VA, 24136. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
