Curtis Howard Durnil, 80, of Hillsville, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mr. Durnil was born in Carroll County to the late Washington Cleveland and Larmie McPeak Durnil. Survivors include his wife Earlyne Stilwell Durnil of the home; daughter and son-in-law Rita and Dale Akers of Hillsville; sons and daughter-in-law James Kennard and Linda Durnil and Kenneth N. Durnil all of Hillsville; sister Addie Durnil Pettry of Hillsville; grandchildren Thomas Nelson Durnil, Travis Dale Akers, Ryan Edward Akers, and Eden Grace Durnil; and great grandson Trenten Dale Akers. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Frank Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Branscome Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
