Connie Wayne Taylor, 71, of Dugspur went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 3, 2011, while surrounded at home with the love of his family. He was born in Carroll County on September 1, 1940, the youngest child of the late Harmon Eddie and Pearlie Alverta Phillips Taylor.
He was a longtime employee of Radford Army Ammunition Plant and retired in 1999 with 36 years of service. He was a founding member of the Dugspur Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1976 and was a loyal member of the organization for 35 years. He served as Captain of the squad for 16 years and in several other offices and roles over the years. He was a lifelong resident and farmer in Dugspur and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor, and friend to all.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Melvin Taylor, and an infant twin sister, Leva Jane Taylor. Left to cherish his wonderful memory and his kind, gentle spirit are his wife of 51 years, Pearlie Bishop Taylor; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Dale Worrell, Dugspur; Judy Taylor-Gallimore and Craig Gallimore, Dugspur; granddaughters and spouse Jessica Worrell Dugspur; Melissa and Josh Dalton, Willis, Maggie Taylor Gallimore, Dugspur; great-granddaughter Natalie Taylor Dalton, Willis; sister Melca Honeycutt, Radford; brothers and sister-in-law, Ivan and Billie Taylor, Hillsville; Eddie Taylor Spartanburg, SC., several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 6 to 8 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clyde Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in the Taylor Cemetery in Dugspur.
