Cleophus Surratt, age 90 of Hillsville, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Salem VA Medical Center. Mr. Surratt was born in Carroll County to the late John Winton and Eva Cordelia Surratt. He served in the Army during World War II. Cleophus was a devoted father and grandfather and a jeweler in Carroll County for over 65 years.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Surratt was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Mary Frances Surratt; his brothers, Avery Surratt and Harley Surratt; and sisters, Lillian Surratt Semones, Leota Surratt Semones, Marie Surratt Smith, and Mabel Surratt Turner.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Surratt and Roger Golding of Hillsville and Cleo Jane Surratt and Jeff Williams of Draper; grandchildren and spouses, Chad and Jill Golding, Seth and Sara Golding, Timothy Williams, Arynn Paige and Chris Link, and Tamara and Chris Monceaux; great grandchildren, Macy Ann Thornton, Kyle Alexander Golding, Savannah Shea Williams, Ethan Alexander Golding-Link, Ashton Michael Golding, Sydney Elizabeth Golding, Heidi Grace Williams, Jack Henry Golding, Liam Cullen Link, Isabella Sophia Golding, Vivian Jane Monceaux, and Evelyn Frances Monceaux; special friends Gaynell Cochran and Margaret Gardner Leggett; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 3:00 Pm with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the North End Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the Hillsville V.F.W. Grover King Post 1115. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
