Claudia Opal Gardner Worrell, widow of Edgar Clinton Worrell, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 at Heritage Hall - Laurel Meadows. She was born June 6, 1911 to Samuel & Gracie Mae Hurst Gardner. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Worrell was preceded in death by two sons Elvin Clinton, Gerald Lynn Worrell; two brothers Clarence, Irvin Gardner; and four sisters Goldie Dalton, Marjorie Quesinberry Goad, Juanita Carter and Imogene Nester.

Opal was a loving mother, grandmother and step grandmother.

Survivors include daughter Iris Ann Worrell of Dugspur, VA; son & daughter-in-law Edgar Eldridge & Helen Smith-Worrell of Mt. Airy, NC; sister Irene Vinson of Hillsville, VA; grandchildren & spouses Darren & Tammy Worrell of Willis, VA, Tabitha Worrell of Roanoke, VA, Cecelia Worrell of Hillsville, Ronald & Angela Worrell of Galax, Greg & Carrie, Preston, and Donald & Carolyn Worrell all of Dugspur; step grandchildren & spouse Tammy & Andy Bowman, Tonya Smith of Mt. Airy, NC, Shannon Smith of Ararat, NC, and Joey Smith of Cana; great grandchildren Cole, Bryant, Gabriel Worrell, Kaley Nester, Jordan, Haley, Emily and Austin Worrell; and step great grandchildren Kasey and Corey Bowman, Christian Smith, Dalton, Jessica, Sheridan and Calvin Smith, Christine Horton and Dustin Lineberry.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Joe Quesenberry and Rev. Shawn Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Worrell Family Cemetery in Dugspur, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home on Wednesday night. Flowers would be appreciated; however donations may be made to the Dugspur Rescue Squad.
