Claude W. Akers, 87, of Fancy Gap, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Wythe County Community Hospital. Mr. Akers was born in Virginia to the late Arthur S. Akers, Sr. and Louie Semones Akers. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Odean Akers. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Danny and Elizabeth Akers of Dublin, Bobby and Eva Akers of Galax, Jackie and Robin Akers of Dublin, Debra Akers Buchanan of Hillsville, Claude and Rhonda Akers of Ft. Chiswell, Ricky Akers of Staunton, and William Lee Akers of Fancy Gap; brother Jack Akers of Dublin, sixteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and special friends Desire, Gloria DeHart, and Ashley (Little Bit) Frazier. A graveside service with burial following will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Charity Hill Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jesse Walker officiating. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
