May 19, 1921 – April 8, 2010
Clarence L. Marshall, 88 of Hillsville, beloved father, husband, and minister, preceded in death by Launa Jennings Marshall and John Henry Marshall, and son-in-law Robert Bobby F. Spraker, Jr., passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Thursday, April 8, 2010.
Clarence was blessed in life to have a wonderful wife of 66 years, Coretta L. Marshall of the home. He also had five wonderful children Carolyn M. Spraker of Roanoke, David & Carolyn Marshall of Hillsville, Bonita & Paxton Durham of Vinton, Susan M. Corbett of Stuart, and Deborah M. & C.W. Parker of King, NC. He is also survived by his brother James L. Marshall of Hillsville; Grandchildren Elizabeth S. Oliver of Roanoke, Robert F. Spraker III and wife Jennifer of Roanoke, Carrie M. Carter and husband Shawn, Jessica M. Vaughn and husband Craig; Joe Durham of Birmingham, AL, Josh Durham, MD, USAF of San Antonia, TX, Jacqueline Corbett and Marshall Corbett, both of Stuart and Austin Parker of King, NC, Jonathan D. Parker and Chadwick N. Parker and great grandchildren Alex Oliver, Jenna & Branson Carter, Bailey Vaughn, Riley Mae Spraker and Caden Spraker, Joey Parker and Emma Parker.
Clarence was so blessed to live a wonderful, active life. He loved to walk through his neighborhood, and at the beach. Clarence was involved in many endeavors throughout his life. At one point, Clarence ran a lucrative cattle business throughout Virginia. Clarence was also a real estate broker and an auctioneer.
Clarences most important endeavor, and the one most dear to his heart, was his call to the ministry. Clarence was Pastor of at least six churches, and continued preaching until his passing. Clarence was a dear man who is known and loved by many in Southwest Virginia.
Clarence had a love of music and loved playing his guitar, banjo and fiddle. He played with many people throughout the area. Clarence had a blessed life, a peaceful death, and will be deeply, incredibly missed not only by his wife and family, but by those whose lives he had touched.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April11, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Dr. Lawrence Childs, Pastor Michael Shockley, and Rev. Shawn Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Marion Marshall Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family says that flowers would be appreciated; however, donations may be made to Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Building Fund 2511 Jeb Stuart Highway, Meadows of Dan, VA 24120 or Hillsville First Baptist Church Building Fund 1401 North Main Street, Hillsville, VA 24343.
