Clarence W. Bartlett, Jr., 81, of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his home. Mr. Bartlett was born in Galax, Virginia to the late Clarence William Bartlett and Rea Bogus Bartlett. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter Teresa Gilbert. Survivors include wife Shirley L. Bartlett of the home; mother-in-law Evalou Owens of Virginia; sisters Jama Lee Nickel of Tennessee and Jeanette Horton of Virginia; step-daughters Theresa Lynn Heule and husband Stuart of North Carolina and Melanie Davis of Louisiana; grandsons Justin Gilbert, Virgil Lee Ramsey, and RJ Ramsey and wife Heather; granddaughter Maria and husband Robert Riffe; and great grandchildren Kiley Riffe and Winston Riffe. Mr. Bartlett was a member of Mountain Plains United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. He was also a 50 year member of Mount Vernon Masonic Lodge. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Mountain Plains United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Maria Grimm officiating. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Friday, February 17, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Masonic Rites and Military Rites will be conducted on Friday night by the Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 A.F. & A.M. and by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountain Plains United Methodist Church or Mountain Valley Hospice. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
