Chester Surratt, Jr., 82 of Austinville, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Salem Health and Rehab.  Mr. Surratt was born in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Chester Surratt, Sr., and Edna L. Southern.

Mr. Surratt worked at Dupont for over 27 years.  He lived in the Waynesboro area for many years before moving back to the Hillsville area where he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.  A special thank you to Fred and Karen Gillispie for all their help and support.  Mr. Surratt was a member of the Waynesboro Masonic Lodge and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael Leon Surratt, Sr.  and Lisa of Stauton; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Lynn and David Huffer of Stuarts Draft; brothers, Dave Surratt of Fishersville and Danny Surratt of Staunton; sister, Linda Smith of Staunton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Taylor, Jonathan Huffer and Michael Surratt, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service with burial will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Augusta Memorial Park near Waynesboro at 11:00 AM with Rev. Michael Hevener officiating.  Military rites will be conducted by the East Augusta County American Legion Post 340 and Masonic rites will be conducted by the Lee Lodge #209. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel in Hillsville on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
