Charles "Charlie" Rand, 72, of Galax, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at his home. Mr. Rand was born in Brockton, MA to the late Charles Alva and Charlotte Ione Miliken Rand. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Ione Kittler. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn L. Rand of the home; children, Charles Wilfred Rand of Dothan, AL and Jennifer Lynne Boilek of Lenoir, NC; and four grandchildren, Jessica Shaffer, Ayla Rand, Teddy Boilek and Eagle Scout, Elijah Boilek. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville at 4:00 PM with Pastor Robert Smith and Pastor Pam Sutherland officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 PM. The family request no flowers and instead prefer donations to be made to Scout Troop 0083, P.O. Box 356 Hillsville, VA 24343. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family.
