Charles Michael "Mike" Southern, 59, of Austinville passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home. He was the son of Shirley P. Southern and the late Charles Moses Southern. He was also preceded in death by his son Kevin Michael Southern. Survivors include his son and fiancé, Brian Mitchell Southern and Carey Scheible of Greensboro, NC; mother, Shirley Parker Southern of Austinville; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Humphreys of Wytheville, Janice and Ronnie Gardner of Knoxville, TN, and Katherine Hawks of Mt. Airy, NC. Mike had recently retired from Volvo Trucks after 34 years of service. He had spent his retirement gardening, repairing cars, and helping his family with home renovations. Mike was a caring son, loving and devoted father and a wonderful brother to those he leaves behind. He was loved by his family and will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Hendrick officiating. Burial will follow in the White and Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the Southern family.
